TIJUANA // QUICK, LOOSE, DIRTY

This research studio was not undertaken with the typical therapeutic or romantic agendas of recent urban work: i.e. either to "fix" the so-called problems of Tijuana (social, infrastructural, etc.), or to glorify its would-be exotic "everyday life," at most accompanied by "poetic" interventions. Rather, the ambition is to propose that there exist innovations and possibilities within TJ, that these inventions may not be fully understood or have been as yet underutilized by those in TJ itself, and that these latent tendencies can be extended and projected toward two ends: to unfold possible alternative TJs (there or elsewhere) by rearranging its existing genetic material; and to make available new material techniques and conceptual priorities within the disciplines of architecture and urbanism. Tijuana is our future.
