Roger Sherman is principal of Roger Sherman Architecture and Urban Design in Santa Monica. His work and research deals with urban change and the self-organizing processes of cities. His forthcoming book Under the Influence: Negotiating the Complex Logic of Urban Property (Univ. of Minn., 2007), investigates the architectural implications of the American property law, which encourages competition amongst multiple rightsholders. He was also editor of RE American Dream: Six Housing Prototypes for Los Angeles (Princeton 1995). His work has earned wide recognition, including awards from the AIA/LA and ASLA for RePark, a proposal for FreshKills Landfill End Use Plan (2001); Railyard Park, a new public space in Santa Fe, NM; and a transit-oriented district plan for North Hollywood, CA.
